Waking up this morning to the sound of birdsong, I was reminded that spring is in the air.
In some cities there are few birds and certainly no dawn chorus to greet the new day. So I feel blessed that I live in Adelaide with its beautiful parklands which surround the city and and the nearby hills filled with the sounds of nature. Hearing it makes me feel happy to be alive.
But listening to birds communicating to each other — claiming their territory, calling to their chicks, alerting each other to food sources or looking for a mate — isn’t just a pleasant sound to wake up to. Birdsong refreshes our senses, gives us a shot of happiness and according to scientists, boosts our cognitive abilities.
The soothing sound of birdsong reduces stress and helps us concentrate. So if you can’t get out and experience nature or if you aren’t lucky enough to live in Adelaide, enjoy a few minutes of nature at your desk. It will restore your equilibrium and bring forth your creativity!
Thanks to Daniel from ReWake who recorded this soundscape in the beautiful Adelaide hills.
Enjoy!
